"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." -Frederick Douglass

Today I started another graduate class at Mount Saint Mary College called, Reading and Literature Birth-Sixth Grade. During the entire course we will have to read a minimum of 50 books. This sounds like a challenge, but it just may be a fun and rewarding experience! I'm excited to expand my knowledge of children's literature because it is my duty as a teacher to have knowledge of a plentiful of books. First, we watched a video called, "Thank you, Mr. Falker read by Jane Kaczmarek." You can watch the video below. This book was a wonderful way to introduce the class to different themes you can use in your own classroom. This book, Thank you, Mr. Falker addresses themes such as determination, bullying, and teacher appreciation. Please take the time to listen to such an inspirational book!

We also took a trip to the new curriculum library at the college. Inside the library we met with Tiffany, the most helpful woman in the library you will ever meet. She introduced the class to a group of different book varieties, and where we can find them inside the library. Below you can see a small portion of the library and our exceptional help, Tiffany.

Once we left the library, we went upstairs to the new computer lab and went over the rest of the course requirements. We were immediately introduced to two new websites for literacy: Goodreads and Librarything. Both of these websites provide you with different information about books as well as reviews from other teachers using the book in the classroom right now!

Next class we were assigned to bring our favorite childhood book and present it to the entire class. I'm very excited for this assignment and I have so many great ones to choose from!
